Why We Review

Purpose of the Review

I would like to take a moment and give a friendly reminder concerning the importance of the review.  It may be tempting to skip over this section, but I encourage you to follow the lessons as they are outlined. Here is why.

In the past I have mentioned that the step by step process used in these lessons will help you succeed on the saxophone. Review is an important step toward your success. It takes much longer (and it can become frustrating) to reach your potential if you leave this step out.  We, as professionals, use reviewing extensively and it works for everyone, every time! It really does. You may find repetition easy to do, or you may find repetition a challenge. Set some goals to help you succeed.

Here are some ideas that may help you succeed with reviewing:

  1. Play the scale 5 times, and then stop!
  2. We are not trying to gain perfection over 1 day, but over a period of time.
  3. When a repetition goal is set (and not a goal to play a scale or exercise perfectly in 1 day), you will walk away from your session having succeeded! A goal of perfection rarely happens but a goal of repetitions in one day can be met every time. It’s great to feel successful in nearly every practice session.
If you review daily, the saxophone will become more comfortable, and your abilities and confidence will grow much faster in comparison to those who do not review.
