Staccato 3 HB

Jeff

Beginning of the Note

When we articulate the beginning of a staccato note, we articulate with a “tah” articulation (see heading Syllable to Say).

End of the Note

This part of the note defines the staccato. There are 2 different ways to play a staccato. Right now I’ll share with you the different approaches, but at this point play whatever version works for you.

Tongue Cut Off

Sounds best at fast tempos

  1. Cut off the end of the note with your tongue. Or in other words, stop the reed with your tongue.
  2. This is easier to execute but lacks the desired sound at slower tempos.
  3. Here’s an audio example of what the air sounds like with a tongue cut off.
