Introduction to Notes
The Quarter Note:
The black ovals are called note heads. The lines pointing up and down are called stems.

Counting The Quarter Note
- Set your metronome to ♩=60
- Start the first quarter note (1) on the first click
- Start the second quarter note (2) on the second click
- Continue this process with note 3 & 4
- There are 4 clicks/notes per measure in our example:
Let’s Count It
Each time the metronome clicks, say 1,2,3,4, looking at the image below:
Let’s Play It
- Identify the name and fingering of the note
- Click here if you need assistance with step 1
- Set your metronome to ♩=60
- Each time the metronome clicks- play a quarter note
- There are 4 clicks in the measure, so you’ll play 4 separate quarter notes in this exercise
